It is matter of pride for the people of punjab that Govt. Inst. of Leather & Footwear Technology GILFT (aka. Govt. Tanning Institute) Jalandhar. which was established in the Year 1934 by the Dept. of Industries, Punjab has been given a new outlook by the Dept. Of Technical Education and Industrial Training Punjab under the modernized scheme of the World Bank. The goal before this institute is to produce Leather and Footwear technologists with adequate training who can successfully integrate in the modern, mechanized Leather processing and footwear manufacturing units.
The institute has a well –qualified staff that has worked hard to train the young diploma holders. I feel proud in proclaiming that our students have undergone through and proper training and can confidently face the challenges of leather industry. They are ready to take on the supervisory position in different areas viz. Production, Markting,procesing etc.
During the last many academic years, the institute had organized a multitude of workshops and guest lectures for the students. In the addition, they were sent for industries for training in the leading mechanized leather processing units and footwear industry units, where they interacted with several distinguished professionals. This has not only helped in moving there all round awareness but also groomed the fresh diploma holders as the needs and requirements of the commercial units. It is a matter of pleasure to invite all the industrial houses to this institute for the campus recruitment of the final year batches of diploma holders in leather technology and Leathers Technology (footwear).
