GOVERNMENT INSTITUTE OF LEATHER & FOOTWEAR TECHNOLOGY(Earlier known as Government Tanning Institute), established in 1934, is one of oldest leather institute in India. It is situated on the Jalandhar- Nakodar road and is about 3 K.m from the General Bus Stand. It is a mono technical institute, presently functioning under the administrative control of Department of Technical Education and Industrial Training(DTE & IT) Punjab and is governed by the Ministry of Technical Education and Industrial Training. The institute imparts 3 years diploma level Courses in the Leather Technology and Leather Technology(Footwear).

Objectives

The main objective of the institute is to meet the growing demand of mechanized export oriented Leather & Footwear Industry in Punjab and nearby states and to produce technical manpower capable of meeting the challenges faced by the industry.


Mission

Mission of the institute is to strengthen and spreading quality technical education among the people to make them ready for Leather and Sports goods cluster of the city

# To provide education services of high quality to prepare employable workforce for the industry not only for state but at nation level.
# To encourage the development of positive attitudes, entrepreneurial abilities.
# To disseminate relevant career information and various government schemes to students and the public in general.
# To reduce the Industry -Academia GAP.
